Fruit of an intense work of analysis of the present and future situation and of the consensus between the different actors linked to the cork sector – in the forestry part: the Forestry Consortium of Catalonia, the Center of the Forest Property, PEFC, the Ministry of ‘Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA), the Directorate General of Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-Food Training of MAPAMA and the European Forest Institute; in the part of wine participated the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and the Technological Platform of the Wine (PTV) –, during the year 2019 the Strategic Plan of the Foundation Catalan Institute of the Cork until the year 2025 took shape with a series of lines of work:
• Train cellers on good practices on bottling
• Generate scientific publications on the influence of the taps de suro on the positive evolution of flat and sparkling wines
• Investigate on the alterations that produce alternative coverings in the evolution of the wine
• Developing technology for the elimination of not desired flavors
• Maintain the UNE secretary and the Spanish ISO delegation in cork

• Implement a new forest service parallel to the extraction of cork (biomass, honey, pasture, hiking ...) in cork oak forests in Catalonia
• Facilitate the extraction of burnt cork to put it back into production
• Have a database of forest owners to facilitate the interrelationship between buyers and sellers
• Ensure the professionalization of the cork cam through the training of peelers and their professional accreditation
• Collaborate in the elimination of pests (cork, cork worm ...) through collaboration with the Administration
• Train forest managers and owners in the economic management of cork farms

• Continuation of business projects on alternative uses for non-stopperable cork and by-products: cosmetics, 3D printing, design and construction
• Generate a new business area with recycled corks (circular economy)
• Investigate the feasibility of intensive cork planting with automatic irrigation

• Generate activities to promote cork jointly between the different actors in the territory: annual communication plan
• Promote the creation of exhibitions on the world of cork as well as digital material for its dissemination
• Invigorate the Cork Route and coordinate it if necessary
• Promote the planting of cork oaks as leisure and team building activities

• Collaborate with international prescribers and disseminators for the dissemination of cork values
• Provide training on cork in all oenology faculties in Spain
• Execution of an international digital campaign to promote the bioeconomy of cork
• Participation in international technology platforms
